An agreement has been inked for the implementation of Sierra Leone’s US$ 1.5bn Freetown-Lungi airport bridge project. The agreement was signed between the government of Sierra Leone, China Road and Bridge Corporation and the Atepa Group.

China Road and Bridge Corporation

China Road and Bridge Corporation is a subsidiary of Fortune Global 500 company China Communications Construction Company. It focuses on global civil engineering and construction projects such as highways, railways, bridges, ports, as well as tunnels.

Noteworthy, China Road and Bridge Corporation is one of the largest engineering and construction firms globally. It operates in more than 50 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

Atepa Group

Atepa Group on the other hand is a private company established back in 1977 as an architectural cabinet by Pierre Goudiaby Atepa.

The company currently specializes in Architecture & Planning. It has several globally renowned projects under its name, including the Banjul Airport in Gambia and the headquarters of BCEAO in Dakar, Senegal. Other notable projects that Atepa Group has been a part of are the ECOWAS Fund headquarters in Lomé, Togo, and the Monument of the Renaissance in Dakar.

As far as its global reach is concerned Atepa Group has offices in several countries in Africa and Asia.

What you need to know about the Freetown-Lungi Airport bridge

Freetown-Lungi airport bridge was promised by President Bio approximately five years ago today (Dec 2023). It is part of the president’s Big Five vision that will help boost economic growth within the region.

The bridge is meant to link the capital, Freetown, to the country’s international Airport at Lungi in Port Loko district. It will be about 8.5 kilometres long.

Reportedly, a feasibility study for the bridge is expected to be completed in the next few months. Construction on the other hand will commence by the third quarter of 2024. It will take approximately 3 years to complete.
