Construction delays have put the inauguration of the new Canadian Canoe Museum to the winter of 2024, according to authorities. Located in Peterborough, the 65,000-square-foot museum was to open this autumn. However, museum executive director Carolyn Hyslop explained the project delays were due to the construction sector. The difficulties for the $40 million project include material and workforce shortages, supply chain interruptions, and timing.

“I am thrilled to announce that we will welcome our supporters to the new museum and campus the weekend of May 11th for our grand opening celebrations,” Hyslop stated. The pandemic and its effects on the construction industry have impacted our timeline. However, the spirit and enthusiasm for this project has not been dampened.”

“It will be worth the wait when visitors can explore this beautiful facility and our many new offerings. They can then continue to the lakefront for a memorable paddling experience.”

Chandos Construction began construction on the $25 million renovation in October 2021. They recently moved more than 100 boats and kayaks into the new show hall.
