Tochil Engineering Construction Ltd., an Abuja-based construction firm, has been granted the contract for the rehabilitation of the unmotorable section in Imo Housing Estate. The estate, located in Owerri West Local Government Area, Imo State, sits off Afifi Drive, Owerri. This vital rehabilitation project, driven by fervent appeals from residents and road users, aims to bring relief to the community.

Officials officially initiated the rehabilitation of the unmotorable section in the Imo Housing Estate project during a ceremony held at the estate gate in Umuguma recently. During the event, Hon. Barnax Ejiakor, the general chairman of Roads 1, 2, and 3, expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Federal Government.

The Current State Of The Imo Housing Estate.

The Imo State government plans to develop mass housing schemes in three zones. They inlude, Umuoma-Nekede (Owerri zone), Amara (Okigwe zone), and Mgbidi (Orlu zone). These housing schemes are to provide housing for various beneficiaries, including workers. The project aims to create new cities, boost the state’s economy, and make housing more affordable. The state’s panel on land recovery accused former governor Rochas Okorocha of forceful land acquisition and recommended returning the lands to Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education (AIFCE).

Hon. Ejiakor also assured the community that with Tochil Engineering Construction Ltd. overseeing the project, there would be no room for substandard work. He emphasized the commitment to quality, with thorough asphalting and a robust drainage system to ensure the road’s longevity.

The elated residents widely approved the rehabilitation of the unmotorable section in the Imo Housing Estate project. The residents have long yearned for an improved road network. They recalled how the road’s deteriorating condition had significantly hindered their mobility, especially during the rainy season. Furthermore, Hon. Barnax Ejiakor stressed the importance of regular road maintenance and called for continued support to sustain the project.

Notable individuals from the estate, including Arc. Agoh Chikwendu, Perm Sec. Goddy Dike and Hon. Commissioner Tito Esekeme were present. Additionally, Prince Peter Anosike (Road 3 Chairman, Imo Housing Estate, Umuguma), Mr. Uche Ezike (PRO of the estate), and representatives of Tochil Engineering Construction Ltd., Messrs; Amb. Emmanuel Emenike, Engr. Emma, and Engr. Chimezie was present at the flag-off event.

As the billboards announcing the project were prominently displayed at the estate’s entrance gates, the commencement of construction work is eagerly anticipated in the near future.
