Saudi’s Marine Engine Manufacturing Plant is a result of Makeen; a joint venture between Saudi Engines Manufacturing Company, and Hyundai Heavy Industries Group. In addition to the Saudi Arabian Industrial Investments Company (Dussur) alongside Saudi Aramco. Quite impressively, the marine engines and pumps manufacturing development stands as the very first of its kind in Saudi Arabia.

The development’s construction works began last month, with continued steady progress to date. In regards to the project’s joint-venture equity, Saudi Aramco will have a 55% stake, On the other hand, Hyundai Heavy Industries will have a 30% stake while Dussur will have 15%. As a whole, it will enable Hyundai to manufacture independently developed HiMSEN engines overseas,  for the very first time.

Saudi’s Marine Engine Manufacturing Plant Production Capacity

Annually, the facility targets to have a production capacity of 235 medium engines. Alongside a total of 160 marine umps and 30 large marine engines. In a nutshell, the engine manufacturing facility will span an area of 150,000 square meters. By Q4 2025, Makeen revealed that it targets to begin full-scale production.  

Saudi’s Marine Engine Manufacturing Plant’s location is right within Ras Al Khair at the King Salman International Complex for Maritime Industries and Services. Upon completion, an official statement noted that it will produce 2-Stroke propulsion engines, mainly for large commercial vessels. Moreover, the facility will also produce 4-Stroke propulsion and power engines for both land as well as maritime applications.

While speaking about the development project, Makeen’s CEO noted that it aligns with Saudi Arabia’s overall growth vision. Eng Abdullah Mohammed al Ghamdi further said that the marine engine manufacturing plant will significantly support the national economy, especially within the field sector of heavy industries. Furthermore, it strives to contribute to the creation of several employment opportunities. Taking it a step further, the project will offer support and training to national youth on the latest global manufacturing technologies.
