The Architectural Association of Kenya will be hosting its annual convention from the 20th to the 22nd of August this year. According to the Chair of the Architect’s Chapter, Emma Miloyo the theme of this year’s AAK Annual Convention will be “Mobility Networks, Whither Kenya?”

Established in 1967, the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) is Kenya’s leading Association for professionals in the built and natural environment in Kenya incorporating Architects, Quantity Surveyors, Town Planners, Engineers, Landscape Architects and Environmental Design Consultants and Construction Project Managers.

Mobility will be a key factor in providing people with access to business markets, job markets, and access to amenities, which in turn plays a major role in the reduction of poverty especially in developing nations. Manufacturing sector will require effective infrastructure in order to function properly. Most rurals in developing countries suffer lack of effective infrastructure and inadequate mobility. Thus, the AAK Annual Convention 2014 theme revolved around the following issues to focus on these issues.

Technology, Innovation and Connectivity; Economics & Investment; Population and Land Use; Infrastructure; Energy and Environment.

The infrastructure industry is being influenced by a couple of issues including integration, privatization, pricing and deregulation. Mobility networks also feature aspects of energy and environmental management, with growth in population and urbanization requiring spatial planning policies, better social policies and infrastructural support in order to sustain the growth. These developments must also be more sustainable and balanced. These were some of the sub-themes in the AAK Annual Convention 2014.
