The new Matthews Medical Center Tower which has been in the works for some years, finally received full approval from the regulators last summer and now the developers intend on breaking ground by the first quarter of 2022. Development plans for the new Matthews Medical Center Tower show that the facility will include seven operating rooms, three endoscopy rooms, a post-anesthesia care unit, an ambulatory care room, plus three rooms for cardiac procedures and spaces set aside for the future expansion plans of the campus to accommodate up to 272 beds. In addition, the project also covers renovation work on 50,000 square feet of already existing space.

According to the Chief Operating Officer at Matthews Medical Center, Jason Bernd, the Matthews Medical Center Tower has been designed to feature all Surgical services on the second floor, while cardiac procedures will be located on the third floor of the building. The fourth floor will house 6 beds for its intensive care unit and the fifth floor will contain additional spaces to accommodate further expansions.

Modular design of the new Matthews Medical Center Tower

Bernd pointed out that the modular design of the new Matthews Medical Center Tower allows for more potential growth. He also mentioned that the market growth of the south Charlotte area has continued rising significantly and highlighted the importance of building this infrastructure. Bernd said he was certain that these beds would be filled up, once the facility was open. He also gave more insights on other areas the hospital was planning invest, which include surgical oncology, special radiological procedures, cardiovascular care and neurology.
