Construction of second passenger terminal in Mauritius to commence in 2019

The construction of second passenger terminal in Mauritius is expected to kick off in 2019. In a view to modernize the transport sector, the airport master plan is currently underway since it’s a major infrastructure project. However, the project will come to completion in 2020.

The project plan

Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, the Prime Minister announced the project plans at a cocktail ceremony of the 50th anniversary of Air Mauritius. Various eminent personalities attended the ceremony held at Hennessy Park Hotel, Ebène.

Air Mauritius is a symbol of national pride and a living example of how private and public partnership can collaborate in the interest of the country. Furthermore, Air Mauritius is a national carrier, with fundamental mission to accomplish. Among its mission is supporting the government policies in terms of connectivity with the rest of the world.

Besides adapting to government policies, Air Mauritius is also responsible for developing an airport brand. The brand is to expand capacity and connectivity in order to expose the country to the rest of the world.

According to Somas Appavou, Air Mauritius CEO, the main challenge of the company resides in the capacity to break the glass-ceiling to transform Air Mauritius. The transformation aims to list the company as the leading and preferred airline in Africa. Thus, upscale its operation and services based on new business models.

Additionally, Air Mauritius, is setting up a foundation which is a concrete example of the company’s commitment to support the country and its operation in areas of importance.

The foundation aims at promoting arts and culture, conservation of natural heritage and environment, empowering youths through contributing to the development of sports and encouraging excellence in education.
