New airport terminal in Nigeria will boost service delivery
Construction of a new airport terminal in Nigeria is nearing completion.The Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) is located at Ikeja in Lagos, the new terminal is expected to begin operation soon.
Passengers and stakeholders at the airport will soon experience the improved services at the airport when the terminal is completed. Yakubu Dati, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) spokesman, confirmed that the airport is really at the completion stage.
Once completed and handed over to the government, the terminal will be capable of processing 30 million passengers given that the airport officials will be able to monitor the level of the work done at the airport terminal.
Lagos airport terminal is among the four terminals that are currently under construction. The other three terminal includes the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja and the Port Harcourt International Airport.
The new terminal at the MMI airport is expected to ease the passengers’ facilitation at the airport as well as increasing the passengers’ volume from the present 15 million to 30 million as visualized by the government.
The airport new terminal contractors are doing the finishing touches and they believe that they will be able to meet up with the scheduled deadline to deliver the facility which is actually the end of the year.
The MMIA at Ikeja near Lagos was originally known as Lagos International Airport and was built during the World War II. It is in 1947 that the West African Airways Corporation was formed having its main base at Ikeja.
The international terminal was modelled after Amsterdam Airport Schiphol while the new terminal was officially opened on 15 March 1979. The terminal is known to be the main base for the Nigeria’s flag carrier airlines, Arik Air and Aero.
Located about 1km from each other, the Murtala Muhammed International Airport consists of an international and a domestic terminal. Both terminals share the same runways
