The Dangote’s Ibese cement factory in Ogun State, currently producing 6million tonnes of cement a year, will have its capacity increased to 12million tonnes by the end of this year following plans to expand the factory.
This was revealed by the President of the Dangote Group Companies, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, as he lamented that the plant spends about US$1.5m on daily basis on diesel to power its electricity plants at the outfit’s cement factories around the country. He also noted that fuels particularly gas is available at higher prices due to its scarcity, forcing Dangote Cement to take the option.
Speaking during a facility tour at the Ibese cement factory, an industrialist told journalists that two new lines had been added to the existing two in order to increase the production by 6million tonnes, a project that has already costed Dangote Cement US$924.4m.
The Ibese cement factory is built on a 26km2 land and the company has its own power plant. However, due to lack of gas, the factory depends on diesel to power its machines.
