$180 Million Fountain Inn Medical Park Breaks Ground in Greenville County

A $180 million medical park broke ground June 30 in southern Greenville County, South Carolina, bringing more than a dozen new and expanded specialty services to one of the state’s fastest-growing regions.

The 50-acre Fountain Inn Medical Park, developed by Prisma Health and sited along the I-385/McCarter Road corridor, is designed to serve Fountain Inn, Simpsonville and the surrounding communities. Site preparation is already underway, and the complex is expected to treat its first patients in December 2027.

The development centers on a four-story, 130,000-square-foot medical office building with more than 200 exam rooms, alongside a 27,000-square-foot outpatient surgery center. That surgery center will house four operating rooms focused primarily on orthopedic procedures, plus four additional suites for a broader range of surgeries, including GI and endoscopic work.

New specialties

New specialties coming to the local area include radiation and medical oncology, neurology, ear, nose and throat care, urology and colorectal care. Existing services being expanded at the site include cardiology-vascular care, gastroenterology, general surgery, orthopedics and pulmonology. The park will also include lab, imaging, and cardiac and physical/occupational rehabilitation services, plus a full-service, on-site pharmacy.

“Today represents far more than the start of construction – it represents our continued commitment to expanding access to high-quality, compassionate care across South Carolina,” said Mark O’Halla, president and CEO of Prisma Health. “As our state continues to grow at a remarkable pace, we are focused on ensuring we have the healthcare services that support our communities.”

Prisma Health’s existing primary care practice in Fountain Inn, located across the interchange from the new park, will also expand to add pediatric specialties and adult endocrinology.

The project is paired with growth at Prisma Health’s nearby Hillcrest Hospital Campus in Simpsonville. As specialty practices relocate to the new medical park, Hillcrest will add primary care providers within its medical office building, creating what the health system calls an easy-to-access primary-care hub.

“The Fountain Inn Medical Park and nearby expansions at the Hillcrest campus exemplify our commitment to offering a wide array of primary, specialty and surgical services throughout our region,” said Justin Benfield, CEO of Prisma Health Laurens County Hospital and Prisma Health Hillcrest Hospital.

Local officials back Prisma Health’s regional healthcare expansion

Local officials welcomed the project at the groundbreaking. State Rep. Mark Willis, who represents S.C. House District 16, called it further evidence of Prisma’s commitment to convenient care in the growing Upstate. Fountain Inn Mayor G.P. McLeer said the project will bring much-needed healthcare access to the community and surrounding area.

Recruitment for physicians and other healthcare professionals to staff the new park is already underway.

Prisma Health’s Upstate expansion comes as other health systems around the country pursue similar specialty-care buildouts — including Children’s Health’s new pediatric specialty center at The Shops at RedBird in Dallas, which recently broke ground with general contractor Suffolk.
