competition-for-uks-largest-floating-villageMayor of London Boris Johnson is launching a design competition for what would be the UK’s largest floating village in the Royal Docks.

His plan would see 15 acres of water at the Royal Victoria Dock site, beneath the Emirates Airline cable car, transformed by floating homes, hotels, restaurants and bars, similar to schemes at ljburg near Amsterdam and Hafen City in Hamburg.

Mr. Johnson said the site is unique. It has the potential to become one of the most sought after addresses in the capital while breathing new life back into London’s waterways.

The formal procurement process will begin this summer. The design competition is open to all developers, but applicants from outside of the UK must have a London-based partner.
