The construction of the US$8.84 million Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) center project has commenced in Accra Ghana.
The project is expected to be completed in September this year and will be providing grade ‘A’ facilities for local and foreign investors who would want to outsource some of their projects in Ghana.
During the ground breaking ceremony the Minister of Communications, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah said the project was executed as a result of E-Ghana project, which provided US$5 million through the World Bank and also Rockefeller Foundation which gave a grant of US$3.84 million.
Ghana’s BPO industry scored the highest, followed closely by India, out of 50 countries in the 2009 A.T. Kearney Global Services Location Index.
Ghana was ranked the 15th most favored destination overall and In 2009 and was adjudged the leading outsourcing destination in Sub-Saharan Africa.
BPO’s across the world have been recognized as a source of wealth and job creation. According to global management consulting firm AT Kearney’s Global Services Location Index (GSLI), India, China, Philippians and Malaysia have a unique combination of talent, cost efficiency and favorable business environment.
In the African region, countries such as South Africa, Tunisia, Egypt and Ghana have been cited as emerging players in the World BPO Industry.
