According to the human settlement MEC Jacob Mamabolo, US $0.42bn will be used for all housing programmes in the department, something which will be of help to the many citizens looking for housing settlements.
This budget was presented by Mamabolo to the Gauteng Legislature for adoption. Mamabolo also noted that the rapid urbanization in Gauteng called for new homes that accommodate people of different races. The housing department was capable of bringing this into place through the use of land and houses.
The department would ensure that the appropriate pieces of land are bought so that the rent can be affordable to the locals. US $4.72m would be used for acquisition of land parcels.
Mixed income housing projects will help prevent discrimination as people with different incomes will be able to live as neighbors without discrimination. All South Africans were advised to apply for government subsidiaries.
The housing department had already offered shelter to 53 Alexandra families that had been evicted and was in the process of building 91 emergency units for families that were displaced in Marlboro.
