The Nigerian Minister of Power Professor Chinedu Nebo has given assurance for implementation of power step up production in the country.

Professor Nebo said this during a visit by delegations from Power China, with whom they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in July 2013 to see the realization of a 20,000MW generation power project and 10,000Km Transmission lines extension.

The visiting delegation was led by the Vice-Chairman in-charge of Management Development of Power China, Du Chunguo. In their discussion, they expressed optimism for achieving increased legal strategies that will gradually promote the project completion, and the setting of other ancillary facilities such as Transmission lines alongside the project to ensure adequate provision of related services.

The Minister assured the Power China delegation that the Ministry is committed to the contents of the MoU that would help enhance the country’s generation capacity.

He further explained the nuclear project’s contribution into the Nigeria power grid, promising an inter-agency collaboration with the nuclear regulatory body. He urged the Chinese to explore coal power as a significant part of the whole energy project to be delivered.

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Power, Mr. Beks Dagogo-Jack, counseled the Chinese to ensure their design is workable, highlighting that the engagement in sharing data, on gas field availability data, ownership and licencing, are important in the realization of the projects.
