The Tunisian Energy Commission through the National Constituent Assembly (NCA), has opposed three draft laws on the extension of hydrocarbons exploration permits for Borj El Khadhra, Baguel (Douz permit) and El Frani (Medenine permit) plants.

President of the Commission Chafik Zarguine of NCA said that the three drafts have several legal and financial breaches that need to be addressed first.

“The commission refused to extend the permits for “Borj El Khadhra” “Baguel” (Douz permit) and “El Franig” (Medenine permit) because of several legal and financial breaches.” He pointed out.
The NCA president gave the announcement last week Wednesday, after meeting with the Industry Ministry’s responsible on renewable energy.

Concerning the permit of “Borj El Khadhra”, the commission spoke of several violations recorded throughout the 23 years of the exploitation period during which the company was granted renewal three times and received 7 extensions.

As to the permits of “Baguel” and “El Franig”, the President of the Energy Commission said Perenco Company chose the decree of 1985 which sets a maximum exploitation period of 30 years and its request for a 15-year extension could not be met.
