City Lodge Hotel Group has made plans to set up a US $23m 3-star hotel in Kenya at the Runda Estate. Construction works are expected to start in January 2015 and is to be ready by October 2016.

This will be the first time the Group is developing a green-field hotel in East Africa. The $23m three star hotel will be made up of 177 rooms and will be housed on the Two Rivers Shopping Mall being put up by Centum. The development is located within the Nairobi’s diplomatic blue zone and is less than a 10 minutes drive from the UN Complex, the US Embassy and the Canadian Embassy.

Apart from construction of the $23m 3-star hotel in Kenya, City Lodge is looking up opportunities in Kampala, Maputo, Windhoek and Lusaka. The company is also going to put up a US$23m development in Dar es Salaam.

The East African region has been enjoying a steady growth path in the last couple of years. This has seen the setting up of new projects and heavy investment from international brands in the region. City Lodge hopes to maximize on this growth, with the $23m 3-star hotel in Kenya being the first development outside South Africa where they have headquarters.

Nairobi is on a growth path setting itself apart as a regional hub that has seen investors construct hotels and restaurants to cater for travelers frequenting this route.

City Lodge Hotel Group is the owner of Fairview Hotel acquired in 2013.
