Arrangements have been finalized for the commissioning of the Uquo Gas Processing in Eket, Akwa Ibom State Nigeria. The event has been organized by the Frontier Oil Limited and Seven Exploration and Production Limited. It will be held at the Uquo Gas Processing Facility and will mark the formal commencement of gas supply to the Ibom Power Company power plant.

The gas facility is viewed as one of the biggest projects of its nature carried out by the independent indigenous partners in Sub-Saharan Africa. In addition, 131million metric standard cubic feet/day of gas will be supplied to Calabar National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) power station in the fourth quarter of 2014, and Train 2 of the Uquo Gas Processing Facility has been commissioned by the Uquo JV to facilitate this supply.

According to the Managing Director of Frontier Oil, Dada Thomas, gas will be supplied to the Ibom Power station to facilitate production of 750MW of power. This will make 10% of the Nigeria’s generating capacity.

According to Thomas, the Department of Petroleum handed Uquo Field among other 24 marginal fields to indigenous companies in 2003 to boost Federal Government of Nigeria’s efforts through the Marginal Field Programme to increase reserves, production, employment, local content and indigenous participation in the upstream oil and gas business.
