South Africa’s Group Five Construction Firm recently appointed Eric Vemer as the company’s new CEO. This announcement was made by the Board that governs the firm.

The appointment comes in as a replacement for the current CEO Mike Upton who is approaching retirement age.

During the selective process for the new CEO for Group Five, an extensive search was done on both internal individuals and external candidates.

Vemer joined Group Five Construction Firm 10 years ago and was a member of the firm’s Executive committee and the MD of the investment and concessions cluster. He has diverse knowledge in contracting, civil engineering and consulting something that will help the company in its transition and also company projects.

He holds a BSc and an MBA from the University of Cape Town with a recent completion of an Executive Development Programme at Harvard University in the United States of America (USA).

Vemer comes in as CEO at a time when the Construction Firm has been awarded a $374 million contract by Ghana’s Cenpower Generation Company for the construction and design of its 350 megawatt gas and oil-fired in Kpone, Ghana.

Before the new appointment, he participated majorly in Group Five’s strategy Developments, was in the leadership of various acquisitions and disposal activities for the company and empowerment transactions.
