Tanzania is planning to put up a new office in Nairobi – Upper Hill area – a building that will also host the country’s embassy in Kenya. Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Mahadhi Maalimu told parliament last week that the government was concluding dialogue with NSSF to see the implementation of the project by the fund.

The complex will be 26 storey building and will be known as Umoja House.

In addition to hosting the Tanzania embassy, the new building will host business offices. It will be constructed at the junction of Mara and Hill roads at the area. According to reports, the undertaking will be a joint venture between the government and NSSF- the latter will contribute 80% of the bill, while the former will cover the rest. Tanzania already owns a plot in Upper Hills.

“We want to set up a number of investment centers in strategic areas to generate revenues to meet the costs of our diplomatic missions around the globe,” said a senior ministry official.
