CRATON Mining & Exploration has started talks with NamPower for a power line connection to the proposed Omitiomire copper oxide in Khomas.

The power line will help in supply of bulk power in the mine according to Andre Genis, chief operating officer of Craton, located near Hochveld in the Khomas region. The mine will focus on exploring near surface oxidised copper ore.

The intention will be to build a 132 kV overhead power line, northerly towards Omitiomire mine. Construction will involve laying a 70 km power line, electrical substations at both the turn off from the Auas-Gobabis power line.

The power supply will help in the project located 140 km north-east of Windhoek, as well as lead to other developments in the area.

Gens also indicated a possibility to have access roads serving the mine, upgraded. “Good road conditions are a concern as much to Craton as to other road-users. The intention is therefore to upgrade sections of the current most suitable access road to a standard that can better survive in the rainy season. Additionally, we are also considering a diversion of the M53 road around the mine, which will also require an EIA”, He said.

The proposed mine got a mining license last year and the place it’s locate there is less power supply and its about 140 km north-east of Windhoek.

Construction of the mine is also expected to start before the end of this year.
