40 kilometers of Chingola Solwezi Road to be Rehabilitated

The Road Development Agency of Zambia and Buildcon Investment Limited have signed a contract worth US $42.67m for the rehabilitation of 40 kilometers of Chingola Solwezi Road which is in the North Western and Copperbelt Provinces.
According to RDA’s Chief Executive Officer and Director, Eng Kanyuka Mumba, the 168 kilometer Chingola Solwezi Road had to be divided into 3 sections so that work can be executed faster. Lot one of the project is 60 kilometers from the Chingola- Chililabombwe junction road towards Solwezi. Slot 2 covers 40 kilometers of the middle section of the same road while slot three is 68 kilometers to Solwezi town.
The scope of work on the Chingola Solwezi Road road will include removal of the present pavement, renovation of the drainage system with inclusion of a high water table. There will also be the construction of a 6.8m carriageway which will be done with asphalt concrete plus the construction of 2m single seal shoulders.
Eng Mumba further noted that the rehabilitation of the road will help in the free flow of traffic and increase road safety something which will be time saving for users of the road.
Work on this project is expected to be complete in 18 months.
