The Sedibeng Regional Sewer Scheme (SRSS) was identified by the Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Council (PICC) as one of the 18 Strategic Infrastructure Projects (SIP) to help improve the situation of the region.
According to the Minister for Water and Sanitation, Nomvula Mokonyane, the Sedibeng Regional Sewer Scheme project will help in improvement of the sewer system in the region in order to prevent spillage of raw sewage while at the same time developing skills for the residents in the region.
The SRSS project will also aide in the creation of job opportunities and improvement of service delivery.
The Emfuleni and Midvaal Local Municipalities will have their infrastructure upgraded on a short term basis to prevent spillage while at the same town receiving quality from the Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTWs).
On a medium term basis, both municipalities will have the extension of waste water infrastructure while the long term solution will see to it that the WWTW in Sedibeng District municipality is completed in time.
Minister Mokonyane noted that the project will see to it that up to 6000 residents receive jobs. Sub contractors were urges to prove that they can really work.
