The R298 road section located on the R43 which is between Worcester and Wyzersdrift in the Western Cape is currently being rehabilitated.
According to the Provincial Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW), works on theR298 road will cost an estimated US $18.27.
Rehabilitation of this section of the road will include the widening of the Breede river bridge and repair works of road structures that are on this section of the road.
This R298 road construction project is expected to help in the creation of major job opportunities and it will allow for the employment of 50,000 persons. This will majorly go to individuals who stay within the Breede valley region.
Contract for the works will also see to it that 30 percent of work is allocated to enterprises which are contained in the Cape Winelands District Municipal. This is expected to be complete by 2017.
Other projects that the DTPW has started working on include the rehabilitation and resurfacing of the R230 and R231 both of which are in the Moorreesburg region with the inclusion of road signs and markings. There will also be construction of structures to tap rain water.
This project will create 18 000 person days of working opportunities and is expected to be complete early 2017.
