Stadiums in Kenya are to receive a major boost after reports that the Kenyan government has set aside US$ 18.5m in the 2015/2016 financial year for the construction of three major stadiums.
The stadiums which will be erected in Nairobi, Eldoret and Mombasa under a private partnership are anticipated to be installed with the latest technology and help in the development of youth talent in the region.
The development of the three stadiums in Kenya in the specific cities will be very beneficial to the country as they prepare to host the 2017 IAAF World Youth Championships in Nairobi.
“Development and support of sports culture and heritage remain a key priority of government so us to nurture the talent of our youth. As you all know Kenya is known throughout the world for its undisputed command of athletics. Our athletes continue to do our country proud and we aim to develop a pool of such sportsmen and women. Our goal is to make Kenya a sports alb in the region and internationally,” National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich announced.
In Kenya the International standard Stadia are Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium both located in Nairobi but they are yet to be fully refurbished.
Recently, the Kipchoge Keino Stadium located in Uasin Gishu County was officially opened after renovation that included the laying of a tartan track.
