Construction work on the second phase of the new multi-million rand Bhisho Offices is set to begin next year in December after the Premier, Phumulo Masualle’ s executive council gave the nod for the roll-out of the phase.
According to Nomfanelo Kote, spokeswoman for Masualle, the council had recently received a progress report for the Bhisho Office after the feasibility study for the same was finalised.
Kota also noted that the sector will also hold Bhisho as a political and administrative capital and will help in the start of economic development and creation of many jobs in the wider Bhisho region.
Upon completion of this project, over 2690 Bhisho officials from seven provincial government departments who have rented their offices in East London and King Williams Town area will move into this new building.
Kota further noted that an estimated US$ 8mn would be used for water supply, while US $68.04mn would go into sewage reticulation for bulk infrastructure in both Bhisho and King William’s town.
The stated time for construction to begin was set that way to help the treasury approve some of the things that were to go with the construction. Construction would then take up to three years.
Aside from this project, the council received progress reports on other projects and the one on roads leading to national health insurance pilot sites and rural roads on scholar transport plus tourism routes would be a priority.
