Egypt is facing a power cut after a high-voltage pylon collapsed in Fayoum south west of Cairo after the area was bombed by explosive devises.
According to the Egyptian Ministry of Energy the power explosives were denoted by unknown assailants on the base of the pylon.
From the pylon three hundred meters way another transmission tower was neutralized by the national bomb squad.
Some 300 meters away, two IEDs detonated at the bases of another transmission tower, and the third was neutralized by the bomb squad.
Also in Fayoum, a minor explosion of a bomb at a famous café left no casualties but damaged the façade of the café and another building.
There is always the risk of Egypt facing a power cut due to blasts at transmission towers, electricity transformers, mobile operators and other public utilities which have been frequent since the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi. Fayoum is one of the cities were such attacks repeatedly occur.
The attacks have inflicted losses estimated at millions of pounds on the Ministry of Electricity, which has recently announced plans to install surveillance cameras at transmission towers nationwide.
Although dozens of pylons have collapsed or been damaged due to bombings since 2013, summer 2015 has been the least season with blackout in four years, a change attributed to several power plants and renewable energy projects that have been inaugurated in recent months, especially after the Egypt Economic Development Conference in March.
