It has ben reported that construction work on the R310 western cape provincial government road project between Vlaeberg and Vlottenburg will be complete by end of July. The total amount spent on the roadworks on this particular project was US$17.69m. This comes in two years later after works begun on the road.
According to the western cape provincial government, traffic on that road section was flowing easily at the moment. About 14000 motorists use the road daily and a new set of traffic lights would be activated on the road in the coming week.

Some of the works on the road included construction of a dual carriageway between Vlaeberg and Vlottenburg. There was also the construction of road over rail bridges, river culverts and four cattle creeps.

Construction of the Vlottenburg road and rail underpass and the Klein Welmoed rail underpass culverts would also help relieve the flow of traffic across the railway line. This will help prevent the factor of having to wait for trains to pass before traffic can flow.

Individuals who use trains will also benefit greatly as the number for slowing downs by trains will be fewer.
The Government also noted that the R310 road section would be proclaimed as a provincial road but this happens after the four level crossings on this section are eliminated.

This road project helped create employment opportunities and as part of this, US $1.88m was spent on supply of goods and services for black economic empowered enterprises while US $0.62 for local labor from Cape Winelands District.
