The Tanzania Building Agency is to construct 10, 000 houses which will benefit civil servants in Tanzania who will wholly own them. The objective of this initiative is to provide quality and environmentally friendly accommodation to the government and public servants through efficient and effective business as well as consultancy services and real estate management.
The news that the Tanzania Building Agency is to construct 10, 000 houses was announced by the  Chief Executive Officer, Mr Elius Mwakalinga who said that according to research done, most of the civil servants are in urgent need of their own houses. He further said that it has become a mega challenge since the number of houses needed at the moment is about 400,000 all over the country.
“We have carried out a study and we now know the number of civil servants, in which regions, at what grades and salary levels. The demand for houses is very high because data shows that every year 30,000 civil servants are employed and are in need of houses while only 5,000 retire,” said the TBA chief.
The research was done with The President’s Office (Public Service Management).
TBA will start by building five thousand houses in Bunju, Dar es Salaam while others will be constructed in other regions.
Tanzania Buildings Agency is the government’s Executive Agency under the Ministry of Works (MoW) with a primary mandate of providing quality accommodation to the Government and public servants as well as building consultancy services to Government.
