The newly constructed 138MW Gouda wind farm in South Africa is now operational, Aveng Grinaker-LTA-the company that was involved in its construction has announced.

Aveng, through its construction and engineering divisions – Aveng Engineering, Aveng Grinaker-LTA Coastal, Aveng Grinaker-LTA Ground Engineering and Aveng Grinaker-LTA M&E – was responsible for the construction works of the Gouda wind farm in South Africa. Aveng worked in partnership with ACCIONA Energy.

The Gouda wind farm in South Africa  has a total of 46 wind turbines and was constructed by a consortium of companies which are the South African Group Aveng with 29 percent stakes, ACCIONA Energy of Spain with 51 percent, Soul City Broad bases Empowerment Company and a community development entity with 10 percent in stake.

According to the CEO of ACCIONA Energy South Africa, Rafael Esteban, the 3MW patented wind turbines that were used in the construction of the Gouda wind farm in South Africa were designed and manufactured by his company’s wind power division. They all have a rotor diameter of 100m mounted on 100m high concrete towers.

The same group of companies working on this wind power project was tasked with the Sishen Solar Plant located in the Northern Cape with a production capacity of 94.3MW.

According to Dharmesh Kalyan of Aveng Capital Partners, the Gouda and Sishen projects will be part of the private infrastructure and concession portfolio and will be partly owned by the company.

Kalyan also noted that the group of companies will continually work with developers and investment partners to deliver independent and private- public power partnerships in South Africa and other countries in Africa.
