The Petroleum Association in Nigeria (PETAN) in partnership with Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) have joined hands to boost the development of local human resource for the oil and gas industry in the country.
The two institutions had previously sponsored several students through an internship programme initiated by SPDC JV back in 2014 seeking to support the manpower development in critical disciplines and equip the graduates with vital industry experience for future employment. Luckily, 40 engineering and geosciences graduates benefitted from the programme.
Some of the intern students have already been accommodated into the system with some of the having secured an employment opportunity with the partner companies and others. The Country Chair and the Managing Director, Shell Companies Nigeria, Mr. Osagie Okunbor, expressed his gratitude towards the successful completion of the programme which produced 40 graduates who worked with 12 PETAN member companies.
During the ground breaking ceremony of shell’s Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), the company allocated a piece of land for their local Nigerian partners to put up a local assembly plants and service centres at the Shell Industrial Area in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The 2012 agreement between the OEM and the Nigerian partners gave a green light for the construction of the first 3 assembly and service facilities for low voltage electrical panels, switch gears, valves and instrumentation equipment.
According to Shell Senior Procurement Manager, Guy Kent, the company is committed to develop the Nigerian capability.
Through the organization and participation of the Nigerian Entrepreneurs in conferences, seminars and workshops Petroleum Association in Nigeria has been on the fore front promoting the development of the oil and gas industry in Nigeria creating more opportunities for the Nigerian companies to project themselves in the competitive industry.
