Renovation of phase 1 of the mega Fourways Mall in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg, South Africa is on the way to completion.

According to the developer, Accelerate Property Fund, phase 1 will be completed by mid-November; however, the overall renovation process is expected to take three years to be complete during which the mall will expand into a 170 000 m2 “super regional mall” and after renovation of the whole building, the project will be valued at over US$ 140m.

Accelerate Property Fund Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Michael Georgiou confirmed the reports and said that there is more demand from consumers for suitable and easily accessible shopping, entertainment and lifestyle locations.

“We plan to provide the customers with a world-class mall so as to guarantee them convenient services. We are in negotiations with a number of top international brands and will be able to share further news on this later in the year,” Mr. Georgiou said.

The initiative of the expansion will expand the surrounding centres including Fourways View and the existing Game building by enabling them to be connected to Fourways Mall creating one space under the same roof that will eventually become the megamall. The present structures will be renovated and upgraded to make the view be more presentable.

Once the renovation of phase 1 is complete, the project will accommodate a Lake Level that will boast a variety of food stores, lifestyle elements and entertainment facilities like a Bounce Fitness Trampoline concept with a trampoline arena located in a 4 500m2 store.

International brands will also be introduced into the mall as tenants; other occupants will include Simply Asia, Marcel’s Frozen Yoghurt, Adega Express, Steers, Milky Lane, Debonairs and Sausage Saloon, alongside existing food tenants such as Wimpy, Ocean Basket and Diya.

The expansion and refurbishment plan of the entire mall is projected to be complete by 2018 and will complement plans to place Fourways as a new central business district in South Africa..
