Sunway City Private Limited is a subsidiary of Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).

It is mandated to develop world class integrated commercial, industrial, institutional, residential and recreational parks at its Industrial Park in Harare.

Sunway City will develop  eco-friendly world class special economic zones with integrated parks to provide relevant infrastructural development to facilitate industrial and economic growth of Zimbabwe as well as regional integration and trade.

Situated along the main Harare/Mutare highway, known as the Beira Corridor, which leads to the port cities of Beira and Maputo in Mozambique, the park has all the critical features of a good production centre for exports to international markets and as a central distribution hub for imports and exports to regional markets.

The main projects include a high and medium density residential area, a regional shopping centre, an Office park, a Medical park and a High Technology park. An international consulting firm has already been engaged by Sunway City to undertake feasibility studies for both the Medical park and High Technology park projects.

Government is considering according Sunway City a special economic zone status with respect to the High Technology Park project in an effort to stimulate economic growth by attracting foreign direct investment. The Medical Park project will also benefit from the incentives given to the special economic zones.

Strategic and equity partners are being sought by Sunway City to co-develop the entire industrial park or provide long term project finance for development of infrastructure projects within the park or co-develop on a project by project basis.

‘Over 800 low density stands have been serviced and development has already started on a number of these stands’, said IDC. Road works in part of the industrial and residential sectors were developed.

Several companies are already operating in the industrial park producing varied products as bleach cotton products, animal and public health products, chrome, cement, steel processing, shoe manufacturing and cement and brick pavers.

The National Oil Procurement Company is also located in the industrial park.

Sunway City was established to provide specialised industrial clusters with quality industrial factory shells, supported by world class technology, efficient communication, road and rail systems and effective land use planning.

The industrial park is designed to compete with the best in the world in the provision of industrial clusters.

The main focus was on the construction of factory shells to benefit local resources like cotton and minerals for both the local and export markets.
