South Africa’s real estate investment trust Growthpoint Properties has commenced on the construction of the new head office for Exxaro Resources.

The new head office will act as Exxaro’s new corporate headquarters and will consolidate its current offices in Pretoria and Johannesburg into a single workspace, located at a convenient midpoint in a decidedly accessible location for its staff and business partners.

Growthpoint Properties office division director, Mr. Rudolf Pienaar confirmed the reports and said that Exxaro is projected to occupy the whole building’s 18 500 m2 of gross lettable area on a long lease.

“We are excited to develop this new head office, tailored to meet Exxaro’s specific requirements that will be a healthy and energising working environment for this leading business, its people and its partners to thrive,” Mr. Pienaar said in a statement.

Designed by AMA Architects, the office flows with a series of layered fluid curvaceous forms in flushed glaze detail. Its triple-volume entrance and reception open onto an atrium that soars upwards through at the core of five floors of workspace.

The development broke ground in February this year with construction to begin in September. It will be ready for occupation in early 2019 with a capacity to accommodate up to 1 400 staff members.

The new building is designed for a 4 Star Green Star SA certification from the Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA), which is also in line with Growthpoint’s high environmental standards for its office developments.

“The new location and style of the building is aligned with our strategy on innovation and consideration for carbon emissions reduction,” Exxaro CEO Mxolisi Mgojo pointed out.

It will cost US$ 6m for it to be complete.

Exxaro is one of the largest and foremost black-owned, South African-based diversified resources companies, with current business interests in South Africa, Europe and United States of America.

Although just 10 years old, Exxaro’s pedigree and skills were built over decades as a company rooted in South Africa and respected by its peers for its innovation, ethics and integrity. Based on a well-executed strategy, solid returns, access to funds and quality resources, Exxaro is a unique listed investment opportunity.
