Amahoro National Stadium in Rwanda is set to undergo a major renovation that will entail expansion works and some additional roofing that will shield spectators from the extreme weather conditions.
Minister of Sports and Culture Julienne Uwacu confirmed the reports and said that the implementation which is stipulated to take place in the beginning of next month will come in handy for the residents and country at large.

Roof on Amahoro National Stadium
“We are planning to put up a roof on Amahoro National Stadium and make several interior upgrades to bring it to a better international standard,” Uwacu said.
She also pointed out that Petit Stade has become smaller due to the increased number of people and we intend to expand its capacity among other planned renovations.
Largest stadium in Rwanda
The Amahoro National Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium with a capacity of accommodating 30,000 people. It is the largest stadium in Rwanda and hosts football matches, concerts, and public events.
The stadium was initially constructed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, at a cost of US $21m. Construction began in March 1984 and was completed in January 1989. However, over the years the arena has seen some regular upgrades and renovations.
It will take approximately one year for the facelift to be complete.Apart from this face-lift, three other regional smaller stadiums in Ngoma, Bugesera and Nyagatare are set for revamping so as to promote games and sports. Construction works have started already on those three stadiums.
