The Adekunle Ajasin University has embarked on a 4MW energy project. The university is to partner with  Dantata Energy Solution to generate 4MW of electricity which will be supplied to the entire university community. The project according to the institution, will cost US$ 2.5m. Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, disclosed this information while addressing journalists during the convocation ceremony at the university, in Akure, the state capital.

Effects of the shortage of power supply
Mr. Ajibefun did say that the institution has been struggling with the challenge of chronic power outages, which is curtailing academic activities on the campus. The Vice-Chancellor added that the energy project would provide a lasting solution to the problem of power inadequacy of the institution.
Ajibefun mentioned that the university had signed a memorandum of understanding with the firm early this year. Though the university cannot utilize all the 4MW, the remaining would be distributed to the host community.
“This power project will save us a lot of funds because we have been spending a lot of money on diesel. The financing for the project will be raised by the company. I want to assure you that the power problem on the campus will be a story of the past when the project is completed.” Said the Vice-Chancellor, who will see to the completion of his five-year term as the vice-chancellor of the university this month, Adekinle Ajasin University
