Doosan Enerbility made an announcement on June 15 stating that it had secured a construction contract for the Duqm gas combined cycle power plant in Oman. The company will develop the project with the Korea Western Power consortium.
Cost
The project is valued at approximately 530 billion won (about $350 million). Additionally, it involves a consortium with SEPCO-3. This is a specialized power plant construction company that will be critical in conducting engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services.
Doosan Enerbility will manufacture and supply key equipment, including steam turbines and generators, with the aim of completing the project by 2029.
The power plant will be located in the Duqm Special Economic Zone. This is approximately 550 kilometers south of Muscat, the capital of Oman. Furthermore, it will boast a generation capacity of 870 megawatts.

Moreover, the consortium entails Korea Western Power, Qatar’s Nebras Power, the UAE’s EUDC, and Oman’s Bahwan Infrastructure Services (BIS). Doosan Enerbility plans to leverage its EPC capabilities and experience in power equipment supply to advance the project.
Lee Hyun-ho who is the head of Plant EPC BG at Doosan Enerbility, stated, “We secured this project based on our accumulated project execution experience and EPC capabilities in the Middle East. We anticipate continued demand for power plant construction to ensure stable electricity supply in Oman and the broader Middle East, and we aim to expand our business opportunities through successful project execution.”
Additionally, Doosan Enerbility recently signed a contract worth approximately 840 billion won for the second phase of the Jafurah Combined Heat and Power Plant with a consortium including Korea Electric Power Corporation and Saudi Aramco. With the addition of the Duqm gas combined cycle power plant contract, the company is further solidifying its presence in the Middle East power plant market.
