Trinity River Park Project

The construction of $350 million Trinity River park project is underway in Dallas as the first attraction, the Play Cove, advances. The monumental project, known as the Harold Simmons Park is advancing across the Trinity River. It is aimed at transforming the Trinity River corridor into a major recreation destination in North Texas. Moreover, the Play Cove is the park’s first major feature and it is already taking shape. However, much of it is being built overseas.

Tony Moore, CEO of Trinity Park Conservancy, noted the Play Cove will include six massive two-story towers. Furthermore, they will be connected by suspension bridges, creating an immersive play space for park visitors. Although the site is still in preliminary stages, the towers are under construction in Germany. Tony also noted designers were selected for their engineering expertise and craftsmanship.

“They’re about two stories high, also connected by bridges, so you can walk from tower to tower,” Moore said. “We wanted the very best.” Once completed, the towers will be shipped to Dallas and installed as the centerpiece of the park’s first phase. Other park projects across the U.S. are also taking shape such as the largest adventure playground in the Southeast, the Gipson Play Plaza.

Scope of Implementation on the Trinity River Park Project

The Trinity River park project, the Harold Simmons, aims to benefit the residents and also the environment it is constructed in. There is a broader vision for a significant investment in green space. Nearly 2,000 mature trees will be added to the site. Moreover, many have already been selected and are waiting in nurseries until construction progresses.

Existing trees will also not be harmed by the construction process as they will be preserved and protected. The park is an up-and-coming 250-acre multi-use park in the heart of Dallas. Contracted firm, Lake Flato in collaboration with landscape architects Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates and also the Trinity Park Conservancy conceptualized the park.

It is based on the notion that great cities are defined by great parks and also great environments. Once complete, the park is expected to play an important role in transforming the Trinity River from a divider. It is anticipated to be a place that will connect the city and its people.
