Another data center, the Hampton Technology Park data center campus, is being planned outside Atlanta Georgia. The client company, LLC has filed a Developments of Regional Impact (DRI) application with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. Their aim is for the approval of the new campus in the city of Hampton. Once complete, the 603-acre Hampton Technology Park could total five buildings.

Moreover, it will also span to an estimate of 4 million sq. ft. (371,610 sq. m). Located along Lower Woolsey Road, the project could be built out to 2033. Hampton is a city in southwestern Henry County, some 35 miles south of Atlanta. It is currently considering a 120-day moratorium on data center development in order to give the city time to better assess their impact. The impact of the moratorium is unknown but it could hamper LLC’s development scope and timeline.

The Hampton Technology Park Data Center Campus: One of Many

The Hampton Technology Park data center campus is just one of the many data center projects springing up across Atlanta. Atlanta, traditionally a Tier 2 market, has quickly become a major hotspot for data center development. There have various DRI applications for more than a dozen campuses filed over the last couple years. Moreover, the centers total tens of millions of square feet across dozens of buildings.

While many are in Atlanta’s traditional data center heartland around Fulton County, applications have been filed for projects across the Peach State. The state of Georgia is still skeptical about the rapid growth of data centers but is still optimistic on their benefits to the state. The proposed Hampton Technology park data center campus joins Project Ruby, a proposed $5 billion data center campus in Columbus.
