Development activities on the multi-billion-dollar Project Jade data center project in Cheyenne, Wyoming have been paused. Data center developer Crusoe noted these comments in a statement that it released earlier. “At the request of our customer, Crusoe has paused its development activities,” the company said in a statement. However, the company did not disclose the customer, nor why it requested the pause. The 1.8GW facility was announced last year, with claims it could scale to 10GW.

Crusoe was working with Blackstone-backed energy company Tallgrass. While releasing latest insights on Project Jade, it also noted it has contracted 4.9GW of data center infrastructure. The acquired resources are for Crusoe Cloud. It claimed that its total development pipeline, including contracted projects, sites under active tenant negotiation, and sites in advanced development, exceeds 40GW. Other major data center projects advancing across the U.S include the $165bn Project Jupiter data center project that is expected to be the world’s largest data center project once implemented.

Outlook on the Project Jade Data Center in Cheyenne

The Project Jade data center project in Cheyenne, Wyoming is one of some of the setbacks Crusoe is encountering in data center developments. Its flagship site in Abilene, Texas, was developed for Oracle and OpenAI. However, it saw the customers pull out of the later stages due to delays with Microsoft ultimately picked up the remaining capacity at the site. “The demand from the world’s leading technology companies for AI infrastructure, quickly and at scale, has never been greater, and Crusoe is uniquely positioned to meet it,” said Chase Lochmiller, co-founder and CEO of Crusoe.

The company’s data center development portfolio contracted to hyperscale clients spans five AI data center campuses across the US. “We work shoulder to shoulder with our customers to move from vision to operational infrastructure at the speed AI demands. The nearly five gigawatts under contract is a reflection of the trust our customers have placed in Crusoe, and that’s a responsibility we take seriously,” he added. He also noted that the firm is building the AI factories of the future and making sure every AI builder has the infrastructure to match their ambitions.
