An Aecon-FlatironDragodos joint venture has finalized a $691 million contract for the Howard A. Hanson dam project. The Howard A. Hanson dam is located in Washington State with the client company being the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Aecon noted the scope of implementation on the dam entails additional water storage and fish passage facility project which will be added to its construction segment backlog in the first quarter.

FlatironDragodos holds a 60 percent stake in the joint venture. On the other hand, Aecon holds the other 40 percent. Once complete, the project increases water storage at the dam. It will also providing salmon access to habitat above the dam. Implementation of the project is set to commence on the second quarter of this year. Moreover, it is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2031. Another waterway and storage project that the USACE has its focus on is the Houston Ship Channel Project 11 expansionΒ

The scope of implementation on the Aecon-FlatironDragodos Howard A. Hanson dam project entails the construction of a downstream facility. Furthermore, the facility will have vertically stacked ports on the dam’s upstream side. Once complete, the downstream facility will work in conjunction with elements upstream of the dam. β€œThis project is an exciting undertaking that leverages Aecon’s extensive civil and dam infrastructure capabilities while advancing Aecon’s steady growth across North America,” said Jean-Louis Servranckx, President and Chief Executive Officer, Aecon Group Inc.

β€œBuilding on the collaborative development phase, we are well positioned to safely execute construction. Working alongside our client, tribal partners, federal and state agencies, and also Tacoma Public Utilities,” he added. The project has been dubbed the Additional Water Storage project as it aims to strengthen its capacity as a defense against catastrophic flooding in the Green River Valley. Other than expand water storage, the Aecon-FlatironDragodos Howard A. Hanson dam project will also ensure reliable water supply to thousands of homes and support the region’s future economic growth.
