Republic of Algeria’s president Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, gave affirmation this Monday that the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project via the territory of the Republic of Niger will kick off immediately after the month of Ramadan. Also, this project is set to join others such as Ondo Refinery in Nigeria enhancing Africa’s energy infrastructure and capacity.
During a joint media statement with the President of the Republic of Niger, Head of State, General Abdourahamane Tiani, after their talks at the Presidency of the Republic, the President said: “We have agreed to launch the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project via the territory of Niger immediately after the month of Ramadan,” noting that “Sonatrach will take the lead and begin laying the pipeline that will pass through Niger”.

In matters regarding counter-terrorism, the President of the Republic of Algeria emphasized that both Algeria and Niger are “in the same trench,” adding in this regard: “We will cooperate by exerting our utmost efforts and relying on all the capabilities and expertise available to Algeria” in this field.
Additionally, after emphasizing that “Niger’s security is Algeria’s security,” the President of the Republic of Algeria addressed his guest, saying: “Be assured, brother President, that we will always stand side by side with our Nigerien brothers, under all circumstances”.
On this occasion, he expressed his hope that the Algerian-Nigerien Joint Committee will convene after the month of Ramadan to strengthen what has been agreed upon and implement it on the ground.
Other Joint Key Projects Between Algeria and Niger
The President of the Republic touched upon the key joint projects between the two countries. These projects span spanning several sectors, such as healthcare. Additionally, the president noted that in this framework, a kidney dialysis clinic will be established. This will be in addition to a press house in the capital, Niamey. He emphasized that Algeria “will spare nothing it possesses for the state of Niger”.
