FRV Australia, a leading developer of large-scale solar projects, completed construction on the 300 MW Walla Walla Solar Farm in New South Wales in October, backed by a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Microsoft. The project, located near the town of Walla Walla in the Riverina region, also forms part of Microsoft’s long-term decarbonization strategy to power its Australian data-centers entirely with renewable energy. Tech company Apple is also eyeing completion of its Lancaster solar farm in Victoria by 2026 for its Australian operations. FRV’s solar farm is expected to deliver clean electricity equivalent to the consumption of more than 90,000 homes. Walla Walla will also contribute significantly to New South Wales’ transition toward a low-carbon grid. It is also expected to strengthen Australia’s renewable energy infrastructure.

One of Australia’s Largest Solar Farm in NSW, Walla Walla, Begins Operations

Reported October 1, 2025 –Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) Australia, part of Jameel Energy and the Canadian infrastructure fund OMERS, has officially announced the completion and full operation of the 300 MWac Walla Walla Solar Farm in New South Wales (NSW). This landmark project is FRV’s largest to date in Australia and a major step toward the state’s clean energy transition.

Walla Walla Solar Farm Project Factsheet

Capacity: 300 MWac

Location: Riverina, NSW

Size: 605 hectares

Annual Output: Powers approx. 90,000 homes

Jobs Created: Up to 350 during construction

PPA Partner: Microsoft (15-year agreement)

EPC Contractor: Gransolar

A Boost to NSW’s Renewable Energy Ambitions

Situated in the Riverina region, the Walla Walla Solar Farm is one of the largest solar installations in NSW. It directly supports the state government’s renewable energy targets and is set to provide enough clean energy to power around 90,000 households annually. The announcement also comes as Glenellen solar farm receives NSW development approval.

The project also created up to 350 construction jobs. This delivered a significant boost to the regional economy through employment and local procurement opportunities.

FRV’s Walla Walla Farm and Partnership with Microsoft

Before construction began, FRV Australia signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Microsoft. Under this agreement, renewable electricity from Walla Walla will be supplied to the grid, supporting Microsoft’s commitment to sustainability and carbon neutrality.

This collaboration highlights the growing role of corporate partnerships in driving Australia’s renewable energy expansion.

FRV Australia’s Expanding Portfolio

The Walla Walla Solar Farm is now the eighth operational project within FRV Australia’s growing portfolio. Together, these projects deliver a combined capacity of 993 MW, reinforcing the company’s position as a leading renewable energy developer.

In addition to Walla Walla, FRV Australia recently acquired the 190 MW Axedale Hybrid Solar & Battery Storage Project and is advancing construction of the 100 MW/200 MWh Terang Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Victoria.

Leadership and Delivery

Carlo Frigerio, CEO of FRV Australia, emphasized the project’s importance:

“Walla Walla is our largest project in Australia and a strong demonstration of our commitment to the country’s renewable energy goals. It reflects the capability of our team to deliver complex infrastructure and the strength of our partnerships with global leaders like Microsoft.”

The project was delivered with Gransolar as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor.
