On Thursday, November 20, 2025, Amazon Web Services (AWS) officially announced that it would invest $3 billion into developing a data center campus in Vicksburg, Mississippi, making the city the newest cornerstone in the state’s emerging “Digital Delta.” The large greenfield project, scheduled to begin construction mobilization in 2026, is located in Warren County-about 40 miles west of Jackson.
The announcement, made in a ceremony at the Mississippi Center for Innovation and Technology, or MCITy, in Vicksburg, represents the largest single capital investment in Warren County history. It cements Mississippi’s status as an emerging center for cloud computing and artificial intelligence, a region state officials are now branding the “Digital Delta.”
“A Defining Moment” for the Delta
The project, set to bring in at least 200 high-paying direct jobs and support over 300 indirect roles in the region, was announced by Governor Tate Reeves, who was joined by AWS executives and local economic leaders.
“This $3 billion investment by Amazon is. another massive win for our state,” Governor Reeves said in his address. “The future of technology is being built right here in the heart of the ‘Digital Delta.’ Amazon’s commitment will create hundreds of direct jobs and supply chain positions and further cement Mississippi as a leader in American innovation.”
The new campus features next-generation infrastructure that supports the heavy computing demands of generative AI and machine learning. The developer plans to start construction in 2026.
The “Digital Delta” Strategy
This $3 billion expansion comes less than two years after AWS committed $10 billion to a similar hyperscale project. In nearby Madison County, originally codenamed “Project Atlas.” Together, these investments total a whopping $13 billion poured into the state’s technology infrastructure in less than 24 months.
Economic development officials say a strategic shift for the region involves moving from traditional agriculture and logistics into high-tech digital infrastructure.
“Amazon’s decision to locate in Warren County represents a defining moment for our community,” said Pablo Diaz, President and CEO of the Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership. “This project will bring enduring and transformational benefits to our small businesses and create exciting career opportunities.”
Infrastructure and Power
The scale of the facility demands immense power infrastructure. Entergy Mississippi, which was instrumental in the deal that landed Madison County, has again teamed up with the state and AWS to make sure the grid can support the facility’s baseload. The project will also benefit from the incentives package approved by the Mississippi legislature for the previous Madison County developments, streamlining the regulatory path for this expansion.
David Zapolsky, Amazon’s Chief Global Affairs Officer, emphasized the local partnership: “We’re investing in the people and communities that make Mississippi strong. launching our new Warren County Community Fund that will address community needs like STEM education.”
Looking Ahead
With the agreement finalized on Nov. 20, local contractors now prepare for a major construction surge. The project will employ about 1,000 construction workers at its peak. “Amazon faced several challenges when choosing this site, but perseverance and full support from state, county, and city leaders cleared every hurdle,” said Board of Supervisors President Kelle Barfield. “The outcome strengthens our local tax base.”
Bulldozers will roll in early 2026, positioning Vicksburg as a key link in the global flow of data. The historic Mississippi River city now aims to power the digital economy as confidently as it once powered regional trade.
AWS is not the only player in Mississippi’s data center boom. AVAIO Digital is developing a $6 billion Taurus campus in Brandon. The 175-acre project will involve Yates Construction and Entergy Mississippi. Other major projects include earlier AWS sites in Madison County and Compass Datacenters in Lauderdale County. These investments highlight Mississippi’s rapidly growing digital infrastructure market.
