AMEA Power, a renewable energy company, has secured PPAs aiming at financing and constructing Africa’s largest solar PV power station, and Egypt’s the first utility-scale BESS. These agreements were initiated during the meeting between EETC and representatives of Helnan Group, together with the presence of the Prime Minister of Egypt, H. E. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and other top governmental officials.

The agreements will lead to the implementation of two large-scale renewable sources of energy in Egypt. The first project is the development of a 1,000MW solar PV plant and a 600MWh BESS in the Benban region of Aswan Governorate. When complete it will be the biggest solar power and BESS project undertaken in Africa.

The second utility-scale project is the addition of a 300MWh BESS to the existing 500MW Abydos solar PV power plant which is under construction by AMEA Power in Kom Ombo, Aswan Governorate. AMEA Power’s Chairman, Hussain Al Nowais, said, “Our projects established new standards that define renewable energy in Egypt and Africa. They are enablers for economic revival, employment opportunities, and socio- community upliftment, underlining our dedication to the electrification and to the procurement of Egypt’s clean energy future.

The total investment proposed for both projects is USD 800 million

The total investment proposed for both projects is USD 800 million. On completion, the projects are expected to produce electricity for over 769,800 homes and emit less than 2. They will also generate about 2,500 direct employment opportunities especially when the constructions are at their peak. AMEA Power is extending its reach in the renewable energy sector by investing more in Egypt. Apart from these projects, the company is in the process of implementing the 500MW Amunet Wind Project that is expected to be finished by 2025. The 500MW Abydos Solar PV Project along with a 300MWh BESS is planned to be fully commissioned by October 2024.
