A height increase request for the Legends Tower, which will become the tallest building in the United States, has recently received approval in the city of Oklahoma thereby allowing the project to proceed to its next stage of development. The approval was granted by the Oklahoma City Planning Commission to this upcoming proposed supertall skyscraper in the United States.
The developers of the Legends Tower, Architecture Studio AO and the developer Matteson Capital made an announcement revealing the proposal at the beginning of the year, in which they sought to increase the original height of Legends Tower which had been originally planned at 1,750 feet (533 meters) to a height of 1,907 feet (541 meters). This supertall skyscraper is expected to unseat the SOM-designed One World Trade Center that stands currently as the tallest building in the United States at a height of 1,776 meters (541 meters) in the city of New York.
Final Approval of the Tallest Building in United States
The final vote regarding the project is planned for the City Council in the month of June, as revealed by the Matteson Capital. Upon completion, the tower will stand as the tallest in the United States and the fifth tallest in the world.
“On the behalf of the Architecture Studio AO, we are very pleased by the approval of the Oklahoma City Planning Commission as they have made the approval unanimously for the requested unlimited limit of the height and granted the team that will be responsible for the development of the project ability to conduct negotiations on a comprehensive signage program for the Boardwalk that is at Bricktown,” said Rob Budetti who holds the position of managing partner.
“The endorsement underscores our belief and confidence in both the vision and design of the Legends Tower development that represents the imminent transformation of Oklahoma City into one global destination and its remarkable stride taken towards the coming future or days.”
Legends Tower Funding Secured
The Legends Tower project is part of a wider mixed-use development, The Boardwalk at Bricktown. The development comprises of a total of three approved towers with a height of 105 meters that will be situated at the base of the super tall skyscraper, which will be housing the retail spaces.
Earlier in the month of March, Legends Tower secured a $1.5 billion funding that will be utilized for the development of the skyscraper alongside the three small towers that will be surrounding it. This information was brought to light by a local news outlet, The Oklahoman. The construction of the tower may kick off in the month of September after a building permit has been secured by its developers. The building will consist of hotels, residential units, and even commercial spaces.
