There are several projects currently underway in Indiana including the most recent, New Westville prison, a US$1.2 billion project announced by Governor Eric Holcomb. These are the top 4 biggest projects in the state.

1.IU Health Downtown Indianapolis Hospital

Formerly known as Clarian Health Partners, Indiana University Health is a non-profit healthcare system, the largest in the state. It has 16 hospitals under the IU Health brans and has nearly 36,000 personnel under employment. Construction began in August 2021 on the Downtown Indianapolis Hospital. Costing an estimated US$4.3 billion, the campus is spread across 44 acres of land located on 1575 N. Senate Ave., Indianapolis. The campus will be 16 stories tall and will cover 2 million square feet. It will feature 864 beds, adult acute-care, medical offices, parking space and a utility plant. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2027. The project team includes HOK and Curis Design as the project architects. Further, American Structurepoint Inc., JPS Consulting Engineers, and VS Engineering are the project engineers while Wilhelm/Gilbane and AECOM Hunt are the construction managers.

 

2. I-69 Finish Line

This US$2.2 billion project involves the conversion of nearly 30 miles of state road 37 to Interstate 69 (I-69) from Martinsville to Indianapolis. The road stretches through Morgan, Johnson, and Marion counties in Indianapolis. It also involves the construction of new interchanges, overpasses and local roads. Much needed upgrades to I-465 on southwest side will also take place over a stretch of 9 miles. INDOT begun construction in March 2019 and is expected to be completed later this year. The project engineers include HNTB Corp., Crawford Murphy & Tilly Inc., Lochmueller Group Inc., WSP, and American Structurepoint. The project contractors include Milestone Contractors, Walsh Construction, Rieth Riley, and Crider & Crider.

3.The Westville Correctional Facility

One of the largest state projects is the new Westville Correctional facility located in LaPorte County. This US$1.2 billion facility is expected to replace the existing Westville facility as well as the nearby Indiana State Prison in Michigan City. The new prison will cover 1.4 million square feet and will house up to 4,200 male inmates. It will also house more than 900 Indiana Department of Correction staff working there. The new facility will also include a 240-bed mental health unit and is expected to be completed in early 2027.

4. The FedEx Express Indianapolis International Airport Hub expansion

Located in the Indianapolis International Airport, this US$1.5 billion project begun in June 2016 and involves a new sorting building, a scale house and an aircraft maintenance-recycling building. Additionally, there will be a new cold chain and shipping center with expanded support facilities and various other site improvements. Construction is set to be completed in October this year. The project architects are CHA Architecture and Guidon Design LLC. CHA Consulting Inc is the project engineer.  BGA Builders, Alberici Constructors, Shiel Sexton Co. Inc., SRC Builders, and Walsh Construction are the project contractors.
