Canada has some of the world’s tallest skyscrapers. Despite having some of the toughest height restriction laws, Canada has evolved to have some of the tallest buildings in North America. Many of Canada’s tallest buildings are located in large cities like Toronto. Below are the largest cities in Canada;

  1. First Canadian Place

First Canadian Place

The crown of Canada’s tallest building is current held by First Canadian Place. Located in Toronto, Ontario, the skyscraper is 978 feet tall with 72 floors. The building has a total floor area of 2.7 million square feet. Construction of the office complex was completed in 1975. First Canadian Place is the third tallest structure in Canada, only surpassed by the CN Tower and the Inco Superstack Chimney.

The St. Regis Toronto

The St. Regis Toronto is a mixed-use building located at 325 Bay Street in the Financial District of Toronto. It is the second tallest building in Canada, the tallest mixed-use building in Toronto, and the fourth tallest structure in the city. The St. Regis Hotel is 908 feet in height, has 57 floors, and a surface area of 802,000 square feet.

Scotia Plaza is a 902 feet tall commercial office located in Toronto, Ontario. It is the 3rd tallest in Canada and ranks 22nd in North America. The building has 68 floors with a total surface area of 1.6 million square feet. Construction of the skyscraper was completed in 1988 and was originally owned by Scotiabank, one of the leading banks in Canada, before it was sold for $1.27 billion in 2012.

This is a tall mixed-use building located in the Downtown Yonge District of Toronto, Ontario. The building 892 feet building is the fourth tallest in Canada and the sixth tallest residential building in the world outside Asia. Aura has 79 floors with a surface area of 1.331 million square feet. The structure was designed by Graziani and Corazza as the chief architects and its construction was completed in 2014.

The first three levels of Number One Bloor are made up of retail stores and the building is directly connected to a subway station.
