Ceigall India Secures USD 188 Million 220 MW Solar-BESS Project in Madhya Pradesh

Ceigall India Ltd. has marked a significant milestone in the growth of its portfolio by securing a 220 MW solar project with integrated battery energy storage (BESS), valued at approximately ₹1,700 crore ($188 million), at the Morena Solar Park. Awarded by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL), the project is also a mark of Ceigall’s entry into utility-scale renewable energy development, beyond its traditional infrastructure and EPC background.

The project, as with all clean energy installations in India, aligns with the country’s move toward firm renewable capacity. The aim is to have solar generation backed by storage to meet peak demand requirements. Additionally, with a competitive tariff and long-term revenue expectation, the award provides Ceigall with immense diversification – both in growth strategy and project execution.

The Morena Solar Park in Central India

Morena Solar Park, located in Madhya Pradesh in central India, is one of the country’s newest large-scale renewable energy hubs. It is designed to combine solar power generation with battery energy storage. Developed by state-backed agency RUMSL, the park is part of India’s push to move beyond intermittent renewables toward reliable, dispatchable clean power that can supply electricity during peak demand hours.

Unlike conventional solar parks that generate power only when the sun shines (as the project name might suggest), projects at Morena are structured to store energy and release it when the grid needs it most. This also makes the park a test case for how solar-plus-storage can function as a firm power source in an energy system geared toward decarbonization.

Ceigal’s project award is part of a recent auction that drew participation from a wide group of major domestic and international renewable players, including Adani Renewables, NTPC Renewables, ReNew Solar, Engie Energy, Dilip Buildcon, MB Power, AMPIN Energy, Apraava Energy, Purvah Green, Serentica Renewables, Shivalaya Constructions, and others. There were 16 bidders overall.

ACME Solar Holdings and Ceigall India are the two developers who have so far emerged as winners for the 220 MW PV plus BESS projects from the RUMSL auction at the Morena Park.
