Recently, in a forum held at the University of Nairobi, the Construction Managers and Construction Project Managers revealed a Construction Project Managers & Construction Managers Bill 2023.

The Bill seeks to facilitate the effective regulation of construction project management and construction management practices in Kenya’s construction industry. Among other things and most importantly the bill proposes the creation of a Construction Project Managers & Construction Managers Registration Board.

The functions of the proposed Construction Project Managers & Construction Managers Registration Board

  1. Registering construction project managers and construction managers.
  2. Promoting standards of professional competence and practice amongst construction project managers and construction managers.
  3. Collaborating with training institutions, professional associations, professional organizations and other relevant bodies in matters relating to the training and professional development of construction project managers and construction managers.
  4. Coordinating research, investigations and surveys in the field of construction project management and construction management.

  1. Planning, arranging, coordinating and overseeing continuing professional training of construction project managers and construction managers.
  2. Supervising the professional conduct and practice of construction project management and construction management. In addition to taking the necessary disciplinary measures in cases of violations of professional conduct and discipline.
  3. Hearing and determining complaints against registered construction project managers and construction managers.
  4. Advising the Cabinet Secretary on appropriate policies and programs to govern the practice of construction project management and construction project management in the construction industry of Kenya.
  5. Undertaking any other function necessary for the performance of any of its functions.

Significance of the Construction Project Managers & Construction Managers Bill 2023

Overall, the Construction Project Managers & Construction Managers Bill 2023 will help enhance the managerial effectiveness of individual projects as well as the organizational effectiveness of Kenya’s building and construction industry at large.

Kenyans will no longer dwell in or pay exorbitantly for substandard buildings that end up collapsing and killing/injuring hundreds owing to rogue contractors that are out to make quick money at the expense of the safety of Kenyans.

The practitioners in this niche on the other hand will benefit from referrals, and skill improvements through proposed professional training, among others. The building and construction industry on the other hand will see the improvement of services and the implementation of new policies and practices that will contribute to its betterment.
