In 1946 ACO was founded by Josef-Severin Ahlmann with the aim of being market leaders in drainage technology.
ACO stands for professional drainage, economical cleaning, and the controlled release and reuse of water.
They do this by processing:

- Cast iron
- Reinforced concrete.
They make their products in environmentally-compatible processes, and use them creatively,
ACO products satisfy up-and-coming demands for technical innovation, economical application, and sustainable construction.
ACO has independent firms in 41 countries on 4 continents.
They run their own production sites in 13 countries including in South Africa.
During 2012, the ACO Group established ACO Systems South Africa to develop the Sub-Saharan market.
They continued to invest in the African market with the acquisition of Rofo Engineering in South Africa, in 2016.
With this acquisition, the ACO Group opened its 31st worldwide production plant, and the first production plant on the African continent.
In 2019 / 2020, ACO expanded it’s regional presence in Africa by opening sales offices in Kenya to service the East African, and in Nigeria to service the West African countries.
